The country's president said he was ready to start talks on forming a new government as early as today.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala recognized the defeat of his SPOLU coalition in the parliamentary elections and congratulated with the victory the ANO movement, which is led by former head of government Andrej Babiš.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the politician's page in social network X.
In his publication, Fiala publicly congratulated the ANO party on its victory.
"I congratulate the winner of the election Andrej Babiš, and I also congratulate all the participating parties on their achievements," Fiala wrote.
The prime minister emphasized that his government worked under difficult conditions and, despite this, achieved significant results.
"The SPOLU coalition has borne the brunt of all the crises the Czech Republic has gone through in recent years. We overcame the most serious security and economic crisis in the country's recent history. We have taken a number of unpopular but necessary steps," the prime minister said.
Among the government's main achievements, Fiala cited energy independence from Russia, accelerated highway construction and "economic growth that exceeds that of Austria and Germany".
Fiala noted that the result of the ruling parties, including the Pirates, in terms of votes is better than in 2021.
"This is a unique result after four years of hard rule. However, the election result determined votes that were not lost but focused on the ANO movement. The result is clear and should be democratically accepted. Thank you," the Czech prime minister concluded.
Parliamentary elections in the Czech Republic
On Friday October 3 and Saturday October 4, the Czech Republic held elections to the lower house of parliament - the Chamber of Deputies.
According to the counting of more than 97% of votes, the ANO party led by the country's former prime minister Andrej Babiš won.
The second place is held by the center-right coalition of parties SPOLU of the current Prime Minister Petr Fiala, in third place - the political party "Starosti and Independents" (STAN).
To create a majority in the parliament needs 101 mandates out of 200. The leader of the party that will become the ruling party as a result of the election will become the next prime minister.
Czech President Petr Pavel said he is ready to start negotiations on the formation of a new government as early as today, October 5.
