A Key Russian Refinery Has Shut Down Its Most Powerful Unit After A Drone Attack

Reuters revealed the details.

One of Russia's largest oil refineries, which is located in the town of Kirishi in the Leningrad region, has shut down its most powerful crude distillation unit CDU-6. This happened after a Ukrainian drone attack and a fire on October 4.

This was reported by Reuters The publication cites industry sources. According to them, it could take about a month to restore the plant's operation.

The publication notes that the shutdown could lead to a slight decrease in the production of petroleum products amid a fuel crisis in Russia, which has been facing gasoline shortages due to constant Ukrainian drone attacks on its energy infrastructure.

The sources said the plant will operate at 70 percent of its capacity during CDU-6 maintenance thanks to the involvement of other units that will operate beyond their rated capacity.

I Belongs to subsidiaries of Surgutneftegaz.

It has a refining capacity of about 20.1 million tons of oil per year, making it the second largest refinery in the aggressor state: the company is second only to the Omsk Refinery.

The Kirishi refinery produces a wide range of petroleum products, including gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel and others.

This refinery is the main supplier of petroleum products for St. Petersburg, Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov regions.
