Axios: Tomahawk Missiles For Ukraine Will Be Bought By NATO Countries

These are munitions that have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.

American Tomahawk missiles for Ukraine will be bought by NATO countries. The Axios publication writes about it with reference to insider information.

According to Axios, the Alliance countries are ready to allocate money for the purchase of Tomahawk missiles for the AFU from the United States if President Donald Trump agrees to sell them. It is not specified how much money may be spent on the weapons.

In September this year, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said he had asked Trump for a new weapons system to help force Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war.

Later, the media reported that it was about Tomahawk cruise missiles, which have a range of up to 2,500 kilometers.

Donald Trump said on October 6 while speaking to reporters that he had already almost made a decision regarding the supply of American Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

But before making a final decision, he wants to hear from Ukraine the answers to two questions. Trump wants to know for what purposes Kiev plans to use the missiles and where exactly they will be aimed.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has said that if Ukraine does receive American Tomahawk missiles, it will seriously damage relations between Russia and the United States.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov promised that Russia would react "properly" to the transfer of Tomahawks to Ukraine.

Tactical and technical characteristics of Tomahawk missiles

The US Army adopted Tomahawk cruise missiles in 1983. Since then, they have been modernized many times. Now there are several variants of the Tomahawks.

In 2017, one such missile cost about $1.9 million dollars. The Tomahawk is 5.55 meters long, 0.52 meters in diameter, has a range of 1,250-2,500 kilometers, with a high-explosive, nuclear, cluster warhead weighing up to 454 kg.

The guidance systems are an inertial system with terrain photo correction, GPS and anti-radar GNS. The missile is equipped with a turbojet engine.
