The number of people wishing to obtain German citizenship is growing every year.
On October 8, the Bundestag of Germany supported the bill to abolish the right to obtain citizenship of the country under the accelerated procedure - in three years. The abolition of the right to accelerated citizenship of the Federal Republic of Germany is stipulated in the coalition agreement of the bloc of Christian parties CDU/CSU and the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD).
This was reported on Wednesday by DW.
In late May, German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt called the "express naturalization after three years of residence in Germany" a mistake and promised that the current government would "put an end to it." In an interview with the tabloid Bild, he clarified at the time that he hoped the change in the law would reduce the number of asylum seekers in the country. "Express naturalization has created additional false incentives for illegal migration. We are eliminating these pull factors," Dobrindt said.
The law, passed by the previous German government and set to take effect in June 2024, allowed German citizenship to be obtained after three years of residence in the country in case of "particularly positive integration achievements." This refers specifically to special success at school or work; participation in community work, such as fire brigade or social work; the ability to support oneself and family members; and proficiency in German at the C1 level. In addition, the general requirements remained - it was necessary to pass a test on the knowledge of the legal and social structure of Germany, not to have conflicts with the law.
The number of those wishing to obtain German citizenship is growing every year - the German passport has a lot of "weight" and gives the opportunity without a visa to most countries of the world.
In cases, for example, if false information was provided when applying, the naturalized citizen can be deprived of citizenship of the Federal Republic of Germany within 10 years from the date of obtaining a passport. The right to naturalization after five years and the possibility to have dual citizenship remain in force.
To pass the law abolishing accelerated naturalization, the relevant amendments to migration law must be adopted not only by the Bundestag, but also by the Bundesrat - the representation of the federal states of Germany.
