In Belgium, Unidentified Drones Spied On F-16s

They flew into a strategic airbase.

Belgian Defense Minister Theo Franken said that unknown drones were spotted over military bases this weekend. They were designed to spy on fighter jets and munitions, Politico reports him as saying.

"They [the drones] come to spy to see where the F-16s are, where the ammunition is, and to get other important strategic information," he told Belgian publication RTBF.

The minister also said an investigation has been launched following reports of drones flying over the Kleine Brogel military base. It is key to Belgium's defense: F-16 fighter jets capable of carrying nuclear weapons are stationed there, and F-35s will also be stationed there. There are Americans at the airbase.

"The Russians are trying to do this [spying] in all European countries. Or is it the Russians now? I can't say that, but the motives are clear, and the ways of doing such things are also very clear," the minister added.
