Norwegian PM: Europe Prepares Response To Peace Plan For Ukraine

The surrender of territories to the Russian Federation contradicts the constitution of Ukraine.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre said Friday that a number of European nations are discussing proposals for a peace plan prepared by the United States.

He said this in an interview with NRK.

Støre, who is currently attending the G20 summit in South Africa, said European countries attending the summit will make a European proposal for Trump's "peace plan" for Ukraine.

"First of all, for a country to give up territories it controls virtually at the negotiating table is contrary to Ukraine's constitution," the Norwegian prime minister said.

He added that the peace plan could still be a starting point for a ceasefire and further negotiations, something Ukraine has previously viewed favorably.

"This opportunity must be seized, but to do so, Europeans must unite and create a counterweight in areas where this proposal is unlikely to be accepted," Støre said.
