A B-52 Bomber With A New Nuclear Cruise Missile Has Been Spotted In The US

Its main technical specifications are classified.

A B-52 bomber with a cruise missile that looks like a rendering of the new AGM-181A Long-Range Standoff (LRSO) low-observable cruise missile for the US Armed Forces was spotted over California. This writes The Aviationist.

The corresponding photo was taken by aviation photographer Ian Recchio. Close-ups show an inverted T-tail with three planes, folding wings under the hull, and wedge-shaped nose and tail sections. These details match the official image of the LRSO missile.

At the same time, the bomber was spotted flying over Owens Valley, California.

According to U.S. Air Force plans, the new AGM-181A Long-Range Standoff (LRSO) missile is to replace the aging stockpile of nuclear-capable ALCM version B missiles.

It is known that this missile has been in service with the U.S. Air Force since the 1980s as one of the elements of the nuclear triad and the country's nuclear deterrent system.

In turn, Militarny writes that the new LRSO missile is produced by Raytheon, but its main technical characteristics are classified. The missile may be mounted on B-52 and B-21 Raider bombers.

"The warhead is a modernized W80-4. Its readiness schedule is closely tied to the pace of development of the missile itself. Against the backdrop of preparations for a production decision in fiscal 2027, test activity has also increased, as evidenced by the appearance of the B-52 with this missile," the material added.
