The media revealed the causes of the crash.
An Il-76 military transport plane crashed in Sudan during a humanitarian flight, killing several crew members. The causes of the incident are being determined, while rescuers continue search operations at the site of the tragedy.
As Al Bawaba reports, the crash occurred on Tuesday near Port Sudan as the plane was en route to the Adarawib region to deliver food. According to preliminary information provided by military sources to Al Jazeera, the machine lost control due to a suspected technical fault. There is no evidence of a hit by the enemy.
On social media, footage is circulating showing the Soviet-made transport plane descending sharply before engulfing in flames and exploding on impact. The wreckage of the plane is scattered over a large area, and the country's aviation command has so far refrained from making official statements. The final number of casualties remains unknown as rescue units continue to survey the area.
What is known about the IL-76
The IL-76 is one of the main heavy-lift aircraft in the Sudanese air force, but the model has been increasingly failing in recent years. The reason is attributed to both intensive use in armed conflict and a shortage of spare parts. The tragedy was yet another loss for the Sudanese air force, but the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) did not claim any involvement in the incident this time.
