Ukrainian intelligence revealed the details.
Russia is urgently intensifying its work in Moldova's Transnistrian region - the so-called DMR - to divert Ukraine's resources to the growing threat from the Russian enclave.
Sources in the Main Intelligence Directorate told UNIAN that mobilization measures have been intensified on the territory of the so-called DMR - reservists are being summoned to the military formations of the quasi-formation, and armaments are being mothballed in warehouses.
According to the interlocutor, the active measures implemented by the Kremlin are aimed at strengthening the Russian presence in Transnistria, which Moscow uses to destabilize the situation in Moldova and create a point of tension on the border with the Ukrainian southern regions. Thus, the risk of sabotage groups penetrating into the territory of Ukraine increases.
"To realize its intentions, Moscow transfers to Transnistria agents of special services, who are tasked with intensifying crisis phenomena, sowing chaos through information operations, committing provocations, and conducting sabotage work. The current focus of the Kremlin's attention on Transnistria marks the beginning of Russia's hybrid operation related to the so-called 'DMR presidential elections' in 2026," the sources said.
In addition, it is noted that Russia's operation is aimed, in particular, at putting Tiraspol back on the needle of free Russian gas, boosting the image of pro-Russian leaders, and covertly increasing Russia's military contingent in Transnistria, so that at the right moment the Kremlin will have all the accumulated forces and resources ready for military escalation.
