Slovakia and Hungary tried to block the decision.
Ambassadors of EU states during the COREPER I meeting in Brussels agreed on the text of the RePowerEU regulation, which provides for a phased cessation of Russian gas imports.
A representative of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU said this, "Ukrinform".
"COREPER I has confirmed the agreement on the final compromise text and will inform the European Parliament afterwards, as always," the spokesman said.
It was reported that all EU member states, except Slovakia and Hungary, agreed to the compromise on REPowerEU.
The speaker emphasized the importance of the adopted compromise, because this legislation, unlike sanctions, means a permanent ban on Russian gas and includes strong enforcement mechanisms for the relevant regulation.
The text of the agreement will be published within today, the speaker added.
The regulation will enter into force the day after its publication in the official journal of the EU, while the ban on Russian gas imports will take effect in 6 weeks.
