The Kremlin is tightening its grip on communications.
Russia is preparing new restrictions in the field of communications, which may affect both private conversations and citizens' access to foreign services. The initiative is being presented as a protective measure, but its consequences go far beyond the stated motives.

Kremlin tightens control over communications
At a meeting of the Human Rights Council, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced his intention to block phone calls from countries Moscow considers unfriendly.
He said such steps were allegedly needed to "digitally protect citizens" from scammers, which Russian media have been actively discussing in recent weeks.
The main outcome of such decisions, however, is further information isolation of the population.
The Kremlin has consistently restricted any channels through which Russians can receive alternative information or keep in touch with the outside world.
New blockades and pressure on the Internet
In recent days, WhatsApp, FaceTime, Snapchat, and the Roblox gaming platform popular among teenagers and children have stopped working in Russia under the pretext of "security risks."
At the same time, the authorities are reducing access to services that allow circumventing censorship and massively disabling mobile Internet in various regions.
The goal is a fully controlled information space
These actions are part of the strategy to create a so-called "sovereign Internet," where the state controls all communication channels and sources of information.
This allows the Kremlin to form a closed media space and restrict Russians from receiving any independent information about what is happening inside and outside the country.
