Kiev will not change its course.
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky realizes the American blockade of Ukraine's path to NATO, but does not consider it necessary to change the constitutional course for Ukraine's accession to the Alliance.
This he said at a press conference after attending a meeting of the European Council, the correspondent of "European Pravda".
Vladimir Zelensky emphasized that American skepticism about Ukraine in NATO appeared under the previous US administration. In particular, he said that he had "directly asked the question whether Ukraine could be in NATO" to former President Biden.
"This was even before the (full-scale) war. President Biden said to me: 'No, you will not be in NATO.' I came back to this question every time, and someone in the White House was already smiling," he shared.
Zelensky's explanation also showed that he was not given any arguments against Ukraine's membership.
"I don't understand if they tell me, 'We are not against it in principle, but you will not be in NATO'. Because it means that someone is against it. And it is necessary to frankly say who is against," he said.
Ukraine has repeatedly expressed the view that the real source of the veto on Ukraine's movement to NATO is Russia, whose requests are satisfied by individual allied states. In Brussels, he did not specify this.
While Volodymyr Zelenskyy reminded that the goal of Ukraine's accession to NATO is enshrined in the constitution.
