Only the boldest decisions do tangible damage to the regime.
President Gitanas Nauseda believes that now is not the time for the European Union to hesitate when discussing additional sanctions against Russia and Belarus. According to the head of state, the Russian economy is not in the best condition, so Europe should increase pressure and impose sanctions against the aggressor country's largest oil companies, such as Gazprom and Novotec, Delfi reports.
"As for sanctions against Russia and Belarus, we should be firm. I believe this is not the time to hesitate, and we must target the most expensive places - Gazprom, Novotec and Lukoil - because only the boldest decisions cause tangible damage to the regime and affect the Russian economy, which is already in bad shape," Nauseda told reporters in Brussels on Thursday.
"We know that their economy is limping and we must try even harder to make Russia pay for its aggression," he said."
As previously reported, European Union (EU) leaders will meet in Brussels on Thursday to agree on measures to finance Ukraine's economic and military needs in the coming years.
The most discussed financing model involves giving Ukraine Russian state assets frozen under the bloc's sanctions in the form of a loan, which Kiev would have to repay only if Russia pays reparations after the war.
