A Russian oil tanker hit by a Ukrainian drone began sinking near the sea terminal of Russia's Novoshakhtinsky oil products plant.

Three days ago, on December 15, Ukrainian forces had already struck the area - then a fire broke out about 850 meters from the tanker damaged in the current attack. The tanker itself was attacked on the night of December 18. Rostov Region Governor Yuri Slyusar reported damage to the vessel, as well as deaths and injuries among its crew.

In local publics, eyewitnesses noted that the attack on the region was likely carried out using jet drones.

According to eyewitnesses, the ship began to submerge after being hit: the stern part was submerged almost to the level of the superstructure. The area of the strike was quickly surrounded, and the tanker itself was fenced off with booms. As a result of the attack, the wheelhouse and hull of the vessel were damaged, the engine and tiller compartments were breached and there was a fire.

Sudno was built in 1969 as a dry-cargo ship, and in 2004 it was converted into an oil tanker designed for transportation of oil products of all classes.
