Russia Is Bombing Its Own Belgorod

A FAB-500 fell near a kindergarten, forcing hundreds of people to flee.

The Belgorod region is being bombed and will continue to be bombed by Russian army planes as long as the war lasts: every year planes drop munitions on people's heads, writes "Dialogue.UA".

On December 18, it became known that the bomb that Russian army aircraft dropped near kindergarten No. 55 in Belgorod on December 12 turned out to be a FAB-500 - a high-explosive aerial bomb designed to destroy buildings, equipment and personnel. The shell was recovered from the crater on December 13, and was going to be destroyed at a firing range near the village of Butovo.

Astra's Telegram channel reported that the munition dropped by Russian aviation became the 135th to fall on Russian territory and the occupied territories of Ukraine since the beginning of 2025. Russians continue to reap the benefits of their war: 216 people were evacuated from a kindergarten, and at least 1,400 people left homes nearby.

Russian army bombs in Belgorod and the region are falling due to technical malfunctions. What the city and region call a horror, the Defense Ministry calls "an abnormal munition descent from a Russian fighter-bomber." The problem is a malfunction of the UMPC or planning modules, often the module's wings do not open after release and the bomb falls shortly after separation rather than flying to the target.
