U.S. Treasury Imposes Sanctions On Maduro's Inner Circle

They are involved in corruption schemes.

The United States on Friday, December 19, imposed sanctions against relatives and associates linked to the regime of Nicolas Maduro.

The U.S. Treasury Department said in a statement.

The agency said it has imposed restrictions against seven people whom the US side links to Maduro's entourage and his family.

These include close relatives of Carlos Erik Malpica Flores, a nephew of the Venezuelan leader's wife. According to the U.S., he was involved in corruption schemes at the country's state oil company.

In addition, Flores' mother, who is Maduro's wife's sister, as well as his father, sister, wife and daughter have been placed under sanctions.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the men help maintain Maduro's "criminal drug kingpin."
