Rubio On Ukraine Peace Deal: Probably Impossible

The U.S. Secretary of State has conceded that the treaty may not be concluded.

The United States is not imposing a peace deal with the aggressor country Russia on Ukraine. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said this on December 19 at a press conference broadcast by ABC News.

"This whole narrative that we're trying to impose something on Ukraine is nonsense. We can't force it. There won't be a peace deal unless Ukraine agrees to it. But there will also not be a peace deal if the Russian Federation doesn't go for it," the US diplomatic chief said.

He said Washington is "trying to understand" the Russian position, "understands" the Ukrainian position and is trying to see if they can coincide.

"Maybe it will happen this week. Maybe it will happen next month. Maybe it won't be ready for a few more months... It might not be possible."
