In Sumy Region, Russian Troops Entered A Border Village And Kidnapped More Than 50 Residents

The oldest of the deportees is 89 years old.

On the night of December 20, the situation in the border areas of Sumy region sharply escalated. Russian units entered directly into the village of Grabovskoye of Krasnopol community, located just 200 meters from the Ukrainian state border, and took about 50 residents to the territory of the Russian Federation, "Focus" writes.

The Russian military took advantage of the village's proximity to the border and promptly established control over the village, Kordon.Media reported on December 20.

According to preliminary data, a little more than 50 residents remained in Grabovskoye, who had earlier officially refused to evacuate. All of them were forcibly taken to the territory of the Russian Federation. The occupation forces said that the deportation was carried out as part of the so-called "filtration measures", which is a direct violation of international humanitarian law.

Information about the removal of civilians was confirmed by the head of Grabovskoye village Larisa Kremezna in a comment to "Suspilnyy".

"There were fifty people left there. They were taken to the territory of the Russian Federation," she said, specifying that there were no children among the deported.

The co-founder of the DeepState analytical project Ruslan Mikula confirmed to "Suspilnyy" that the activation of Russian units is being recorded in the Grabovskyi area. According to him, the situation continues to be clarified.

The fact of crossing the border and seizing the settlement was officially confirmed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

An officer of the AFU's Main Communications Directorate Dmitry Likhoviy told Ukrainska Pravda in a commentary that Russian troops did enter Grabovskoye, after which the Defense Forces were forced to withdraw from several positions in the area.

After capturing the village, he said, the Russian military forcibly removed more than 50 Ukrainian civilians to Russian territory. These are mostly elderly men and women, the oldest of the deported is 89 years old.

With the situation worsening, the military and local authorities are once again urging residents of the border areas not to refuse to evacuate. According to the AFU, Sumy regional authorities have already organized a large-scale evacuation process - more than 30,000 people have been taken out of dangerous areas. At the same time, almost 5,700 residents, including 38 children, have not yet agreed to leave the frontline zone.
