The U.S. Navy will develop a new class of warships called Trump and build two battleships - "the largest ever built," U.S. President Donald Trump announced, speaking from his Mar-a-Lago residence, writes "Deutsche Welle".

The first battleship, the USS Defiant, is scheduled to be built in the early 2030s - it is currently in the design phase. According to Trump, the battleships will be part of a new "golden fleet" of modern warships. He added that eventually the US Navy plans to increase the number of such a fleet to 20-25 ships.

The new battleships, along with standard guns and missiles, will be equipped with hypersonic weapons, relsotrons (electromagnetic cannon) and powerful laser weapons, Trump announced.
