Why Kupyansk Has Become A Symbol Of Putin's Failure

An analysis of Ukraine's army general.

Despite the Kremlin's repeated lies about the capture of Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region, the city is under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This is a failure for the Russian dictator, and not only in military terms.

About this said Ukrainian Army General, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine (2005-2010) Nikolai Malomuzh.

He recalled that it is not the first time that Russian military reported to dictator Putin about the "capture" of Ukrainian cities.

"The occupiers demonstrated flags and even their alleged presence on the streets of the same Kupyansk and other cities. If we are talking along the entire front line, there has already been a report on eight towns, starting from Volchansk and ending with Gulyaypol, that they are allegedly occupied. And Putin himself voiced this.

And Kupyansk was talked about during several press conferences and even during a meeting of the expanded board of the Russian Defense Ministry. That is, it was a key format of PR-action of the Russian troops and the dictator himself," Malomuzh said.

According to him, Kupyansk was especially important for the Russian army in terms of the possible opening of another broad front of offensive in the Kharkiv direction.

"But the disruption of the occupants' plans was systemic: they failed to capture Kupyansk, and even more so to bring the occupation from the north and south of Kharkiv region, as they tried. We repelled both the striking flank positions and completely localized the actions of saboteurs in the city of Kupyansk. At first they were up to 200, then up to 150, now - less than 100.

That is, there are still some literally representatives of the Russian armed forces, who are hiding in basements, in houses - without food, without almost air support by drones, as it was earlier. The defense forces have practically localized this entire local breakthrough into the city," the general noted.

In this situation, the Russians' failure is obvious - both military, and in tactical format, and in the prospect of developing new offensive operations of a wider format, Malomuzh believes.

"But most importantly, it is a military-political failure, because Putin based his entire policy regarding peace talks on this. And so the 28 points [of the draft peace plan] that he submitted to the US were accompanied by attacks on Ukrainian territory.

But the trump cards that the Russians were pulling out of their sleeve turned out to be false. Putin, on the other hand, told Trump and U.S. representatives who were in Moscow that he was advancing. He said that there were already "successes" in the Kupyansk direction, and Kupyansk was "captured" in general.

The dictator even demonstrated video materials, saying that Volchansk, Konstantinovka, and the whole direction from Gulyaypol had already been "captured", and this entire agglomeration was allegedly already under the control of the Russian Federation, along the perimeter almost to Zaporizhzhya," he said.

Malomuzh also added that the Russians also told the Americans about the "seizure" of the Pokrovsko-Mirnograd agglomeration during the negotiations in Moscow.

"Therefore, Kupyansk is a symbol of Putin's failure and his unsuccessful PR. And all this has military and political implications. The dictator's trump cards turned out to be false," the general summarized.
