A Russian FSB agent was unmasked in a multi-stage operation.
On December 26, the Security Service of Ukraine detained in Kiev a hitman recruited by the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB). The killer was planning to kill an officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
The SBU reports this in Telegram.
The FSB agent was exposed as a result of a multi-stage operation. The killer was detained in the very center of Kiev during an attempted murder of a Ukrainian military officer - literally "on the hot seat", when an associate of the occupiers had already pulled out a gun and took aim at an officer of the Defense Ministry's GUR.
The investigation established that the killer is a citizen of a Central Asian country. The agent, who was looking for "easy money" in his own country, was recruited by the Russian Federal Security Service. The agent arrived in Ukraine disguised as a tourist.
First, the "tourist" stopped in Pervomaysk, Mykolaiv region. There he purchased several smartphones and various SIM cards, which he used to communicate with his FSB handler. Then the Russian agent went to Kiev, and already in the capital received from the Russians a photo of the target, approximate geolocation and coordinates of the weapons cache.
"For the physical violence against the officer, he was promised 50 thousand US dollars and legalization in one of the EU countries. At the scene of the attempted assassination of a Ukrainian intelligence officer, the detainee was seized a weapon with ammunition and a smartphone with evidence of his contacts with the FSB," the SBU said.
The investigation materials informed the citizen of a foreign state of suspicion under a number of articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine:

h. 2 of Art. 15, part 2 of Art. 115 (completed attempted premeditated murder);
p. 1 Art. 111-2 (complicity with the aggressor state);
h. 1 Art. 263 (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives).
"The attacker is in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property," the SBU added.
