China Imposes Sanctions On US Companies And Individuals

Beijing has responded to arms shipments to Taiwan.

China's Foreign Ministry on December 26 announced sanctions against 10 individuals and 20 U.S. defense companies for selling arms to Taiwan, Reuters reported.

The U.S. recently announced a large-scale arms sale to Taiwan, which allegedly "seriously violates the One China principle" and three joint Sino-U.S. communiqués, as well as "seriously undermines the PRC's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

The Chinese sanctions include Boeing's branch in St. Louis, Northrop Grumman Systems, L3 Harris Maritime Services.

The Chinese sanctions include freezing all assets that American companies and individuals have in China and prohibit Chinese organizations and individuals from doing business with them.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry added that 10 individuals on Beijing's sanctions list are also banned from entering China.

Earlier, on December 17, the US announced the largest-ever arms package for Taiwan for $11.1 billion (it includes HIMARS, artillery, Javelin anti-tank missiles, Altius drones, among others).

The agency noted that this is the second arms package for Taiwan adopted since President Donald Trump came to power in the United States for the second time.

The arms are being provided to Taiwan amid increasing military and diplomatic pressure from China, Reuters emphasized.
