The president of the United States is optimistic.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he was optimistic about a peace deal during a visit by Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to his Mar-a-Lago residence on Sunday.
"Well, I think we have a good chance ... I think they want to do it now, and I think Russia wants to do it too. But every time one side wants to do it, the other side doesn't," Trump told The Post in telephone comments.
He also reiterated that he has settled eight wars, but acknowledged that the Russia-Ukraine war is the most difficult of all. "But I think we can handle it," Trump emphasized.
As the publication reminds us, Zelensky will bring with him a new 20-point peace proposal, a version of a 28-point plan drafted in November by Trump's negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
The location of Trump's upcoming meeting with Zelensky - at the president's Palm Beach estate - may differ from Zelensky's previous visits to the White House, NYPost notes.
"Trump is known for graciously hosting world leaders and using this luxurious venue as a backdrop to try to influence his guests," the publication writes.
Trump often recalls Chinese President Si Jinping's visit in 2017, when he treated him to a gourmet dessert before announcing airstrikes on Syria, a show of military might.
"We had the most beautiful piece of chocolate cake you've ever seen, and President Xi enjoyed it," Trump recalled shortly afterward. "He was eating his cake. And he was quiet."
