Lithuania has officially withdrawn from the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines, the BNS news agency reported on Saturday, December 27.
The procedure of withdrawal from the convention was completed six months after the UN Secretary-General officially notified it.
Lithuania as well as Estonia submitted the relevant documents to the UN headquarters on July 27.
The country's Defense Ministry said earlier that Lithuania would soon begin negotiations on the purchase or production of anti-personnel mines. As Reuters reported in July, Lithuania and Finland plan to start producing anti-personnel mines in 2026 for their own needs and for Ukraine.
