Will Belarusians Celebrate The New Year With -20°C Frost?

Forecasters have given a forecast for the last days of 2025.
The uncertainty with the weather for the next few days seems to be going away. Three weather sources have warned Belarusians about the upcoming changes. And not all of them will be pleasant. There is a probability of frost up to -20°C, as well as strong wind, ice and everything else that happens in the real winter, writes "Telegraf".
Anomalously warm December may take a sharp turn by the New Year. We have studied all available forecasts to get the most accurate picture for the days before New Year.
Meteorological telegram channel "Meteoweibe" warned that right on Saturday, December 27, in the evening a cold front of cyclone Reda will pass through the country, accompanied by wind strengthening up to 15-20 m/s and icy roads.
According to the Republican Hydrometeocenter (Belgidromet), Sunday, December 28, the weather will continue to be determined by the atmospheric fronts of the cyclone. They will bring precipitation, mainly snow and sleet. In some areas it is necessary to prepare for heavy snow, snowstorms, sleet and ice. The wind will blow from the northwest, strong and gusty.
Another meteorological channel about the weather in Belarus Nadvorie added that on Sunday afternoon an active secondary vortex may form on the cold front, which will bring wind gusts up to 20-25 m/s and charges of wet snow.
Freezing temperatures will hit on Monday
There is already certainty that the key change will be the cooling that will begin on Sunday evening. According to forecasters, by Monday morning, December 29, the temperature in eastern Belarus will drop to -5...-7°C. Belgidromet confirmed that the night temperature is expected to be even lower in the northeast: up to -9°C.
Meteorologists have warned about the possibility of arrival of another, but very cold Arctic air mass at the end of December. Nadvorie channel suggested that if the snow on the ground is 5 cm high by December 30, the Republic may even experience severe frosts, the so-called "twenties" (below -20°C).
"We are preparing for the twenties, as the air mass with values of 504-510 gp dum is very cold," writes the channel's analyst, specifying that such severe frosts near the ground require additional conditions, such as cold advection near the surface and clear skies in the anticyclone.
Meteoweib, however, gives a softer forecast, but nevertheless also frosty. According to its calculations, by December 31, snow with a height of 2-7 cm will lie on most of the territory of Belarus, while on the night of December 31 to January 1, the temperature will fall to -6...-13°C.
Daytime on January 1 is expected to be -3...-9°C with light snow and moderate wind. Moreover, the real winter will probably last the whole first decade of January 2026.
