The US president criticized the UN for inaction in resolving conflicts.
The United States under the Donald Trump administration is playing an active role in conflict resolution, something the United Nations (UN) should also be doing, Trump himself said on his social media network Truth Social.
In the post, he announced an end to fighting between Thailand and Cambodia. On the eve of the parties signed an agreement to this effect. Clashes on the border between the two countries resumed in December after signing a cease-fire this summer and a peace agreement brokered by the U.S., China and Malaysia in October.
Trump said reaching a cease-fire agreement between Bangkok and Phnom Penh was "swift and decisive, as it should be in situations like this."
"With all the wars and conflicts I have settled and ended over the past eleven months, eight, perhaps the United States has become the real United Nations, the cat United Nations must start being active and involved in world peace!" - Trump wrote.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the U.N. for its inaction in resolving conflicts. "All they seem to do is write letters with very harsh language and then they don't implement them in any way. It's all empty words, and empty words don't solve problems," he said, speaking at the UN General Assembly in September.
