The penultimate shortened trading week of 2025 was marked by the strengthening of the Belarusian ruble. During the three trading days on the Belarusian Currency and Stock Exchange, the U.S. dollar exchange rate fell by exactly one percent to USD/BYN 2.9126. By the beginning of the year, the dollar rate has already decreased by -16.15%. The trading volume for three sessions amounted to $36.244 million, which corresponds to the weighted average volatility. The official website of the BCSE states that there will be no trading in foreign currencies on December 31. Thus, there are only two full trading days left before the end of the current year and the beginning of the next one. It is unlikely that the U.S. dollar and the Russian ruble will change dramatically during these days, so we believe that the Belarusian currency market will go on a short vacation with the U.S. dollar rate around USD/BYN 2.925. The rate of the Russian ruble remains around RUB/BYN 3.70 per 100 Russian rubles.

The most interesting thing will start to develop with the beginning of 2026 and still our forecast is for the weakening of the domestic market. Many factors are in favor of such a reversal (key rate, demand, state budget, geopolitics), we just have to wait for the trend to start.
