It's the details that matter.

US President Donald Trump continued to show a relatively favorable attitude toward Moscow's positions, but this time, unlike in previous meetings, publicly praised Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and expressed confidence that peace can be achieved in the foreseeable future.

This was reported Monday, December 29, by CNN, summarizing the meeting between Zelensky and Trump, which took place Sunday in Florida.

At the end of more than three hours of talks, neither side claimed a significant breakthrough in the peace process to end Russia's war against Ukraine. Both leaders emphasized that the negotiations remain complex and will require additional time.

One of the key conclusions of the meeting, according to the author of the material, was that the war will either end or risk dragging on indefinitely.

Trump did not give specific deadlines for ending the war, but made clear that amid active negotiations involving his special envoy Steve Whitkoff and son-in-law Jared Kushner, the current moment may be the most appropriate to end hostilities.

Another conclusion, CNN points out, is that Vladimir Putin was physically absent from the talks, but his figure was ever-present in the context of the discussions.

The Russian dictator did not attend the meeting, but Trump had a phone conversation with him before the talks with Zelensky and said he intended to call Putin again after they were over.

The third important conclusion of the meeting, according to the author of the publication, was the so-called "last 10 percent".

On the eve of the talks, Volodymyr Zelensky said that 90 percent of the provisions of the peace plan had already been agreed upon, a figure previously announced by U.S. officials. After the meeting, Ukraine's president confirmed that assessment.

It was the remaining 10 percent that proved the most difficult to settle. Among the key stumbling blocks are the fate of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and the territorial issue. At the same time, Trump admitted that Ukraine may need to consider territorial concessions now.
