China Conducts Large-scale Military Exercises Around Taiwan

The PRC's maneuvers affected sea and air, drawing close attention from international observers.

Military activity around Taiwan has escalated sharply, with China's large-scale maneuvers affecting the sea and air, raising regional concerns and drawing scrutiny from international observers.

Reuters reports Reuters.

China conducted prolonged live-fire exercises around Taiwan, involving aircraft, navy and landing forces.

The drills were the second day of Beijing's most extensive maneuvers in recent times and were aimed at practicing scenarios for blockading the island from the north and south.

The live-fire exercises took place in several areas at once in the sea and airspace near Taiwan and China's coast.

Blockade and strike scenarios

The Chinese military said that as part of the exercise, naval and air force units practiced strikes on sea and air targets, as well as anti-submarine operations.

Sources said attacks on land-based targets, including U.S.-made weapons systems in Taiwan's inventory, were simulated separately.

The exercise was dubbed "Justice Mission 2025" and began shortly after the U.S. announced a record military aid package to Taipei.

Analysts estimate the current maneuvers were the largest in terms of scope and proximity to the island in recent years.

Taiwan's reaction and control of the situation

Taiwanese authorities are closely monitoring China's actions, including possible missile launches over the island.

Taiwan's President Lai Jing-de said the PRC's exercises "do not match the behavior expected of a responsible great power," while stressing the defense forces' readiness to defend the island without seeking escalation.

Taiwan's Defense Ministry confirmed live-fire drills near the northern coast, noting that some of the zones declared by Beijing overlap with the island's territorial waters.

Regional Security Factor

Despite the activity of Chinese forces, there were no major disruptions to international flights, although a number of routes were adjusted.

In the coastal zone, Coast Guard ships continued maneuvering and engaged in tactical confrontations with Taiwanese vessels.

Taiwanese services emphasize that they control the situation and are ready for further developments.

We would like to remind that in China the decline in profits of industrial enterprises has accelerated, which demonstrates the vulnerability of the country's economic recovery: weak domestic demand has had a stronger impact on income, overriding the benefits of exports. According to the State Statistics Committee of the People's Republic of China, the annual decline in corporate profits in November 2025 amounted to 13.1%, after a 5.5% drop in October, which was the sharpest decline for the entire year.

It should be noted that China imposed sanctions against ten citizens and twenty American defense companies for supplying arms to Taiwan. The restrictions hit Boeing's St. Louis branch, Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation and L3Harris Maritime Services, among others. The sanctions imply freezing all assets in China and prohibiting Chinese organizations and citizens from doing business with them.
