The first results of the data analysis have emerged.
According to the BBC, the Irish government has received information that unknown drones have appeared in the skies above the country - and it happened around the same time that Vladimir Zelensky's plane was due to land in Dublin. The Ukrainian president was in Ireland on a state visit earlier this week.
Sources in the Irish government confirmed that such an incident did take place, but the Irish armed forces declined to comment on the information, which initially appeared in the media.
The information about the drones was also confirmed by Zelensky's adviser Dmytro Litvin. "The host party is responsible for security," he told Ukrainian journalists. - According to their data, there were indeed such drones, but it did not affect the visit and did not force any changes in the visit."
"At exactly that moment"
The first to report the appearance of drones in the skies near Dublin was the Irish publication Journal.
According to it, on Monday night, when Zelensky's plane was due to approach Dublin, four unknown drones flew in the direction of the presumed route of the presidential flight.
"The plane landed a little earlier than scheduled, just moments before the incident, which occurred around 23.00. The drones reached the place where Zelensky's plane was supposed to be exactly at the moment when it was scheduled to fly there," the publication said.
The Journal's authors report that they are talking about four drones, which they describe as "military-style vehicles." The publication also says they were quadrocopters.
In the meantime, the Irish Times writes, citing sources, that the Irish warship LÉ William Butler Yeats detected five drones "that were flying near the route of Zelensky's plane."
"Their discovery triggered a massive security alert amid fears it was an attempt to interfere with the plane's itinerary," the newspaper said.
A no-fly zone was imposed over Dublin when the president's plane landed.
According to the press, authorities do not yet know exactly where the drones originated, where exactly they took off from, or where they are now.
First the airport, then the warship
"Their range and the time they are able to spend in the air suggest they were advanced drones and were flown by experienced pilots," the Irish Times wrote, citing its sources.
The Journal said the drones may have taken off from an area northeast of Dublin, possibly near the Howth Head peninsula on the north side of Dublin Bay. Authorities are considering versions of a ground launch, or from an as yet unidentified craft.
The drones flew with their lights on, and apparently "they wanted to be seen," sources told the Irish Times.
Flying near the intended route of Zelensky's plane, the drones then headed toward an Irish warship that had been sent to the Irish Sea in connection with the Ukrainian president's visit, the local publication said.
Journal also claims that the Irish military decided not to shoot down the drones because it did not have effective equipment to deal with them. The publication says that the warships did not have any air defense equipment other than machine guns, and the range of the police devices against the drones was insufficient.
In recent months, authorities in several European countries at once have reported the appearance of drones over their airports and military bases. The latest such incident occurred in the Netherlands on November 22, when unidentified drones were detected over the Volkel military base near the German border.
In September, Russian Shahed-type drones flew into Poland while attacking targets in Ukraine; drones have also been detected in many countries, as well as in Belgium, Germany and Lithuania.
