This was confirmed by sources from the Chechen leader's entourage.
Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov is unable to hold his annual direct line with the republic's residents due to deteriorating health, two sources close to his entourage and the head of the Chechen opposition movement Adat, Ibrahim Yangulbayev, told "Verstka".
"Our padishah has fallen ill. I hope he will not get up. Jackals are running, but they won't cancel anything yet, they just postpone [the direct line]," one of the publication's interlocutors said. According to Yangulbayev, Kadyrov is now on drips, as he has recently become dramatically ill.
"But I can say that they will still do the direct line, unless something [unforeseen] happens. The medics are preparing it, they just postponed it because of his health condition," Yangulbayev said. He also added that information about Kadyrov's illness is secret, and no one knows exactly what the head of the republic is ill with.
Before that, sources from Novaya Gazeta. Europe" spoke of his kidney problems, as well as pancreatic necrosis. According to Yangulbayev, Kadyrov initially had stomach problems, and his personal doctor Elkhan Suleymanov specialized in oncology.
In March 2023, the German publication Bild reported that Kadyrov's doctor Yasim Ibrahim El Shahat, head of the nephrology department at Burjil Hospital in Abu Dhabi, had been summoned from the United Arab Emirates for kidney problems. According to the AirNav Radar service, Kadyrov's personal business jet made several flights to the UAE between late November and early December. The first, on November 27, took place from Grozny to Abu Dhabi. The next day the plane flew to Dubai, after which it flew back to Grozny. On November 29, the plane left the Chechen capital for Abu Dhabi again, and did not return until December 4.
On this background, Chechen media have been publishing similar announcements about "large-scale preparations" for the direct line for the past few weeks, but unlike the releases of other governors, they do not yet contain the date and time of the event, writes Verstka. The opposition Chechen organization Niyso noted that Kadyrov was last seen during the arrival of American UFC fighter Jon Jones to the republic. In the video of the meeting, Kadyrov's face is visibly swollen, and he speaks to his guest more slowly and quietly than usual during public events.
"During the year, he periodically disappears from public space precisely because of his health. [Then] he is pumped up and brought back to a 'fit' state. It's the same situation here. If they can heal and prepare him, they'll hold a direct line. If not, they will just pretend that no line was ever planned," Niyso concluded.
