Media: US To Increase Arms Deliveries To Ukraine By Christmas

Amid U.S. intentions to distance itself from NATO after 2027, Washington says arms shipments to Ukraine will increase before Christmas.

This underscores the United States' plans to arm Kiev even as the domestic burden in NATO is redistributed, the Kyiv Post writes.

"Support for Ukraine remains, but Europe must be prepared for a NATO in which the United States will no longer be an automatic first responder," a senior Western official familiar with the talks told the publication.

The Pentagon earlier warned European partners that while military aid to Kiev is expected to increase, Washington will no longer support NATO's conventional defense systems after 2027. This information was confirmed to the Kyiv Post by three knowledgeable sources.

"Washington is telling Europe that the era of US dominance in NATO is coming to an end - and the timeline is set," a European diplomat, who was not named, told reporters.

The U.S. defense establishment has issued an ultimatum: If Europe does not establish a European-led NATO structure by 2027, the United States is prepared to completely abandon key planning processes, including the NATO Force Model (NFM) and the NATO Defense Planning Process (NDPP).

Now the Americans are still involved in these processes to help transition Europe's control.

"After 2027, according to one official, Europe will have to 'figure it out' without taking U.S. involvement as a given," the resource notes.

No major changes to the U.S. troop structure in Europe are planned for now. The Pentagon will reduce the number of high-ranking American officers in NATO's command structure, opening those senior positions to Europeans.

The Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) remains American, however, maintaining the centerpiece of NATO's military architecture.
