The "rat" was detained personally by the head of the Ukrainian special service.
Yesterday it became known that the SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) revealed in its ranks a Russian agent — the head of the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Center. He was personally detained by the head of the SBU Vasyl Malyuk, who called this detention historic. The story has already become one of the largest spy scandals in Ukraine in recent years.
As the Agency learned, the FSB sent a group of two people to Vienna to recruit Dmytro Kozyura, the head of the headquarters of the Anti-Terrorist Center of the Security Service of Ukraine, who had been detained the day before. This is evidenced by the data of the border service of Russia.
The SBU announced the detention of the Russian spy the day before. The special service published photos of the detainee in its press release, according to which the Ukrainian media established that it was Kozyur. According to the SBU, he was recruited in 2018 in Vienna, his supervisor was FSB officer Yuri Shatalov.
According to leaked databases, Yuri Shatalov is a 48-year-old native of Ivanovo, living in the Moskovsky district of Yasenevo (there is the headquarters of the Foreign Intelligence Service). In one of his notebooks, his phone number is written as "Shatalov Yuri FSB".
Shatalov did fly to Vienna in 2018, according to data from a Border Guard leak. His flight to Austria took place on March 15, 2018, and he flew back three days later.
His companion on this trip was an employee of the FSB department for the Ulyanovsk region Dmitry Arefyev (he also flew to Vienna on the 15th and flew back to Russia three days later, both times Arefyev crossed the border at about the same time as Shatalov).
On domestic flights, Shatalov flew at least once (in June 2020) with Alexander Soima, who in 2021 was deputy head of the first department of the FSB investigative department, wrote "Proekt". He is the son of retired FSB colonel Vasily Soima.
Two other foreign trips of Shatalov can also be found in the leaks. In the summer of 2019, he flew to Poland, and in July 2022 — to Istanbul, which, after the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine, began to act as a transfer hub for those flying from Russia to other countries. In these trips abroad, Shatalov was also accompanied by other FSB officers, according to the data of the border service.
The detention of Kozyura was carried out personally by the head of the SBU Vasyl Malyuk, who called it "a historic special operation, given the level of the agent, his professional training and the scale of damage that he could potentially cause."
According to the Ukrainian intelligence service, Russia demanded that members of the intelligence network collect and transmit data in the field of defense. The SBU said that for a long time through the identified agent, Kiev transmitted disinformation to Moscow. Kozyura was charged under the article on treason, he faces life imprisonment.
