Putin Submits Agreement With Lukashenka On ‘Security Guarantees’ For Ratification

Details.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin submitted an agreement with Lukashenka concerning security guarantees to parliament for ratification. The document will be presented by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Grushko. The corresponding order of the ruler was published on the official portal of legal information.

“To appoint Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Alexander Viktorovich Grushko as the official representative of the President of the Russian Federation when the chambers of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation consider the issue of ratification of the Treaty between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus on security guarantees within the framework of the Union State, signed in Minsk on December 6, 2024,” the document says.

The agreement on “mutual security guarantees” between Russia and Lukashenka was signed by the dictators in December 2024 in Minsk during a meeting of the “supreme state council” of the “union state”.

The document, which was approved by the Russian dictator the day before, provides for measures to be taken in the event of a “threat to the sovereignty” of one or both countries. Among the key provisions is the issue of deploying Russian tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. As noted by Russian Ambassador Boris Gryzlov, the agreement confirms that the external borders of the “union state” form a single defense space.
