The AFU have announced the figures.
The Kursk operation of the Ukrainian Defence Forces has been going on for six months. During this time Russia has already lost 40 thousand soldiers.
This is reported by the AFU General Staff.
The operation of Ukrainian troops in Kursk region began on 6 August 2024. The General staff notes that for the first time in 11 years of war the fighting was transferred to the territory of Russia. Ukrainian troops are holding hundreds of square kilometres of ‘buffer zone’ in the Russian Federation.
‘The Kursk offensive operation was aimed at preventing a new enemy offensive in Sumy and Kharkiv regions. This operation is still fulfilling the said function six months later. The operation forced the Russian occupiers to transfer significant resources to Kursk region, weakening their positions in other directions of the front,’ the statement said.
According to the AFU General Staff, North Korea has sent 12,000 military to Kursk region. The losses of North Korean troops amount to 4,000 people. One of the three conditional DPRK brigades has actually been destroyed, two have lost combat capability.
The AFU confirmed media information that units from the DPRK were withdrawn from the front line.

During the operation, Ukrainian forces captured 909 Russian military, significantly replenishing the exchange fund. This has allowed to return hundreds of Ukrainian defenders from Russian captivity.
‘The Kursk offensive operation remains an example of sudden asymmetric and successful actions of the Ukrainian Defence Forces, which make it possible to inflict significant losses on the superior enemy and intercept the initiative on the battlefield,’ the General Staff added.
