ILO: Labor Productivity In Belarus Lower Than In Turkmenistan

The average Belarusian worker produces 31.5 ‘mathematical’ dollars per hour.

The average Belarusian worker produces less than their counterparts in all neighboring countries except Ukraine. Belarus lags five times behind the world leaders in labor productivity. The International Labour Organization (ILO) has updated its global labor productivity database based on 2024 data, reports Belarus and Market.

Experts from the organization calculate productivity in constant international 2021 dollars based on purchasing power parity, which equalizes prices. This means that for Belarus, the ILO result in dollars will be significantly higher than in actual U.S. dollars.

According to the ILO's calculations, the average Belarusian worker produces 31.5 of these "mathematical" dollars per hour. As a result, Belarus ranked 67th in the world for labor productivity.

All EU countries rank higher than Belarus, including Poland, which holds 43rd place globally (48.8 dollars per hour), and Lithuania, which is 45th (54.7 dollars per hour). Among former Soviet bloc countries, the best results are seen in Slovenia, Croatia, and the Czech Republic, which rank 30th, 31st, and 32nd, respectively, with productivity of 57-60 dollars per worker per hour.

Our current so-called allies also outpace Belarus in labor productivity:

Russia ranks 48th with 44.3 dollars per hour.

Kazakhstan ranks 52nd with 39 dollars.

Turkmenistan ranks 66th with 31.6 dollars per hour.

The top positions in the productivity ranking are held by countries such as Luxembourg (166 dollars), Ireland (139 dollars), and Norway (123 dollars). This means Belarus lags behind the leaders by five times.

Some of the lowest productivity figures are seen in major economies such as China (19 dollars) and India (10.7 dollars).
