Media: USA Reduces Participation In Fighting With Circumventing Sanctions Against Russian Federation

European officials say that Donald Trump's administration has reduced its involvement in efforts to impose sanctions against Russia.

This is reported by Bloomberg with reference to European officials.

The U.S. has been virtually absent from several working groups set up by allies to fight efforts to circumvent sanctions imposed on the Kremlin, said the officials, who asked not to be named.

The officials said the U.S. has been largely unresponsive to one of the groups, which is focused on preventing the Russians from obtaining parts and equipment used to make weapons. Another group, in which the U.S. is not involved, is dedicated to monitoring and enforcing a G7-imposed ceiling on Russian oil prices, they added.

It is not clear whether the U.S. has made an active decision to wind down its participation or whether it simply lacks key personnel, the officials said. They added that some meetings involved junior officials with little decision-making authority.
