The head of the Kremlin will be given a deadline.
US President Donald Trump did not give Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a deadline to agree on a ceasefire with Ukraine. But he expressed the opinion that such a deadline for the head of the Kremlin could be in the future.
This is reported by NBC News.
This is how the American leader responded to a question from media representatives about a possible time frame in which Putin would have to agree to stop attacks as part of Trump's attempts to end the Russian-Ukrainian war.
At the same time, the US President expressed confidence that an agreement would still be reached.
“There was no deadline. But I think we will have one,” he answered regarding the deadline.
According to Trump, “They're going at it pretty heavy right now, as you probably saw both of them, but I think we'll have it done fairly soon.”
The American president also denied the claim that Putin had rejected Washington's proposal, previously agreed upon with Kyiv, for a 30-day ceasefire across the entire theater of military operations between Ukraine and Russia in a recent telephone conversation with him.
Trump said that the Russian dictator “didn't reject anything.” He added that “there are a lot of sanctions against Russia, probably more sanctions than anyone.”
Before that, on March 21, at the White House, the US president expressed confidence that Russia's war against Ukraine would inevitably end, despite the fact that Putin had not yet agreed to the ceasefire proposal, partially agreed upon by the US.
“We had a couple of good conversations today, and maybe we can get that death march stopped as soon as possible,” Trump told reporters.
NBC News notes that it remains unclear what kind of conversations the US president had in mind, but earlier this week he spoke with both Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
