Trump Allows Trade Duties Relaxation For ‘Many Countries’
DONALD TRUMP

If he sees fit.

US President Donald Trump may exempt certain countries from additional trade duties, but if he sees fit.

Trump's statement is quoted by CNN.

Announcing Hyundai's $20 billion investment this afternoon, Trump said he could exempt ‘many countries’ from imposing trade duties.

‘I can make a lot of exemptions for different countries. We might even be even more generous,’ the president said of reciprocal tariffs between countries and the US.

However, Trump did not specify which countries could receive an exemption or what criteria would be used to make such decisions.

In recent weeks, the US president has emphasised that there are no exemptions to his tariff policy. But the other day, speaking in the Oval Office, he said he was ready to show ‘flexibility’, though he did not explain what exactly that means.

Also today, after the Cabinet meeting, Trump said that new tariffs on various goods will be announced ‘very soon.’ In addition, the president announced a 25% duty on any country that buys oil from Venezuela, starting on 2 April. He later clarified that this tariff is imposed in addition to the duties already in place.
