UK Intelligence Assesses Impact Of Ukraine’s Most Successful Strike On Russia In 2025

A wide range of critical munitions was within the impact zone.

The strike on the military base in Engels has been deemed the most successful attack of 2025. As a result, Russia will be unable to use the airbase for missile strikes against Ukraine for some time.

This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence on Х (Twitter).

According to the briefing, on the night of March 19-20, the Ukrainian Armed Forces used an unmanned aerial vehicle to strike an ammunition depot located at the Engels-2 Russian strategic aviation base. The base, situated 600 km from the border, has been used for attacks on Ukraine.

British intelligence reports that the strike hit a range of aviation munitions used against Ukraine, causing significant damage.

“Considerable losses will likely disrupt strike operations from the airfield in the short term, forcing Russia to strengthen its defenses and replenish its ammunition stockpiles,” the report states.

Russian aircraft have also likely been relocated to nearby airfields, a standard practice in response to Ukraine’s deep-strike operations.

“This attack is Ukraine’s most successful strike on a Russian ammunition depot in 2025 and continues the pattern of regular Ukrainian drone strikes deep into Russian territory. It also highlights the ongoing difficulties of Russia’s air defense in protecting its strategic military assets,” the UK Ministry of Defence added.

As a reminder, on the night of March 20, the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck an ammunition depot at the Engels-2 airbase in Russia’s Saratov region. Satellite images from U.S. aerospace company Maxar, dated March 21, show visible damage.
