Demographic Situation In Belarus Continues To Worsen

Belstat claims that 9.1 million people lived in Belarus as of January 1, 2025. Over the year, the population of our country has decreased by 46,698 people, and over the past five years — by approximately 300 thousand, reports Euroradio.
There are 1 million 996 thousand 730 residents in Minsk, 1 million 456 thousand 357 in the Minsk region, 1 million 327 thousand 973 in the Homel region, 1 million 299 thousand 912 in the Brest region, 1 million 72 thousand 63 in the Vitsebsk region, 984 thousand 880 in the Hrodna region, and 971 thousand 365 in the Mahiliou region.
On January 1, 2025, Brest had more than 346 thousand residents, Vitsebsk — almost 359 thousand, Homel — just over 501 thousand, Hrodna — 363.7 thousand, Mahiliou — 352.8 thousand people. Only in Mahiliou the number of residents has decreased over the year.
Experts believe that the real population of Belarus is significantly smaller. In recent years, hundreds of thousands of Belarusians have left the country due to repressions.
