A tanker has been denied entry into a local port.
A tanker carrying Russian crude oil for the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation has been denied entry into a local port. The tanker lacks proper documentation on its seaworthiness.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
The Honduran-flagged Andaman Skies, built in 2004, loaded 767,000 barrels in Murmansk on February 24 and was due to unload in Vadinar on March 30.
Indian regulations require tankers over 20 years old to have a seaworthiness certificate issued by a member of the International Association of Classification Societies or an organization authorized by the local regulator. The vessel was certified by a local consultancy, Dakar Class, which is not recognized by Indian authorities.
The vessel is currently in the Arabian Sea between Oman and India, still fully loaded, and appears to have stopped sailing, ship tracking data shows.
The ship was allowed to dock at an Indian port last year because it was less than 20 years old at the time, the sources said.
India is a key destination for seaborne shipments of Russian crude oil following Moscow’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and the country’s import flows are under intense scrutiny by the market as many vessels are sanctioned.
However, the Andaman Skies was not included in the US sanctions list targeting ships carrying Russian oil, although it is sanctioned by the British authorities.
