Even the celebration of Kupalle does not save.
The population of Kopys has decreased from 628 to 600 residents over the past three years, writes the ‘Vitsebsk I'm Walking’ channel. In 2023, a local activist wrote an appeal to the Vitsebsk Regional Executive Committee, complaining about the closing of the cheese factory and bakery.
Since then, the authorities and propaganda have been trying to improve the faded image of the ruler's small motherland. Recently, a new bakery was opened there with pomp and in the presence of high officials. But these efforts do not seem to have had any noticeable result.
And this is a telling moment. A lot of budget funds have been invested in Kopys in the last ten years. In a relatively small village, they opened several Euraopt shops, a Karona shop, and a restaurant, writes Salidarnasts.
Nearby, in Aleksandryja, they organise the annual Kupalle celebration, the scale of which can be envied by the ‘Dazhynki’ of previous years. One of Lukashenka's family residences is also located here.
However, people do not come here - Kopys is simply dying out. And this is the most eloquent assessment of the permanent ruler's efforts to ‘save’ the Belarusian village. After all, coming for a weekend to the ‘Potemkin’ village and living there on a regular basis are two big differences.
