This is necessary for security guarantees.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni supports the idea of extending NATO's Article 5 to Ukraine in a certain format. According to him, she is ready to make every effort to make such a model start working.
‘We have the issue of security guarantees. I think Giorgia has its own view on this. And she is in favour of Ukraine being granted the Fifth Amendment in one format or another. That's her idea. I think it's very challenging. And I know that she will do everything to make such a format work,’ Zelensky said at a meeting with journalists, Interfax-Ukraine wrote.
The president said that the prime minister considered the option of applying NATO's fifth article more expedient and safer for Ukraine than the deployment of a military contingent. According to the head of state, this format can become part of future security guarantees and it is worth discussing.
