Six fatalities are reported.
Six people were killed when a Bell 206 helicopter crashed into the Hudson River in New York, USA. The aircraft broke apart in the air and fell upside down.
This is reported by the Associated Press.
As informed in the Fire Department of New York, the data on the aircraft crash, which occurred between Manhattan and the New Jersey waterfront, appeared on Thursday at 15:17 local time (about 21:00 Moscow time).
Eyewitnesses to the tragedy and law enforcement officials told Western media that the helicopter broke apart in mid-air and fell upside down into the Hudson River, killing all six people who were on board.
‘The official was not authorised to speak publicly and did so on condition of anonymity,’ the AP publication said.
Witness Bruce Wall said he saw the helicopter ‘disintegrate’ in mid-air and that the tail section and propeller came off.
Footage has been released on social media showing parts of the helicopter falling into the water, while the overturned craft itself plunged into the river. At the time, rescue boats were circling around the helicopter.
