Helicopter Crash In New York: Siemens Top Manager With Family Killed

Escobar arrived in the U.S. from Spain

Siemens executive Agustin Escobar was killed in a helicopter crash in New York. There are also three children aged from 4 to 11 years among the victims.

This is reported by ABC News.

The head of the European technology company of Siemens, his wife and young children were on board the tourist helicopter Bell 206, which the day before fell into the Hudson River in New York. No one survived the accident.

Agustin Escobar, his wife Merce Campruby Montal and their children aged 4, 5 and 11 have been identified as victims of the crash along with the 36-year-old pilot, law enforcement sources told Western media.

It is also noted that the identity of the pilot, who was flying the charter helicopter from New York Helicopters, has not yet been released.

The US National Transportation Safety Board is now investigating what led to the deadly incident in New York.

What is Known About the Helicopter Crash

The accident occurred yesterday afternoon (local time) off River Drive in Hoboken, New Jersey, just over 15 minutes after the aircraft took off from Wall St Helicopters, officials said during a press briefing.

The helicopter reached the George Washington Bridge before turning south and crashing, officials said.

The helicopter, identified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Bell 206 helicopter, was on its sixth flight of the day.

Officials told reporters that the aircraft was found upside down in the water when rescuers arrived on the scene.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams spoke out about the crash during a briefing and said ‘our hearts are with the family and those on board’.

Escobar and His Family Arrived in the US from Spain

Escobar's family arrived in New York from Barcelona, Spain, two Spanish officials told ABC News.

Escobar was appointed to lead Siemens' Spain and Southwest Europe division in 2022.

Miguel Angel Lopez, the former head of Siemens' Spanish division, praised Escobar. He said in a release that ‘in recent years, his work has been key to Siemens’ success in mobility and transport.’
