A Chinese citizen experienced it firsthand.
A Chinese citizen who fought in Ukraine on the side of the Russian army and was captured suffered due to the use of chemical weapons by the Russians.
The captured Chinese soldiers reported this at a press conference held by the Security Service of Ukraine.
One of the captured Chinese, Wang Guangjun, said that he still has problems with his eyesight. According to him, the poisonous substances were used by the Russians just when he was captured.
“It was some kind of gas, it became impossible to breathe,” Wang Guangjun said. He was already losing consciousness when he was “grabbed by the collar and pulled out of the dugout into the fresh air.”
The Chinese also reported that they were “treated well” in captivity and were immediately given water and everything they needed.
When asked how he ended up in the Russian army, Wang Guangjun said that he used to “live an ordinary life,” but lost his job as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, so he decided to “earn some money.” According to him, service in the Russian army is promoted by certain Chinese bloggers and platforms, in particular, TikTok.
Another prisoner, Zhang Renbo, said that his family is quite wealthy, and he first went to Russia to travel, and only then also wanted to “earn money”.
The Chinese citizens claim that they did not know about their participation in the war. In particular, Wang Guangjun said that he wanted to work exclusively with the “rehabilitation of the wounded,” and when he realized that this was not true, “there was nothing left to do.” The prisoners said that the Russian Federation “took advantage of their trust.”
Wang Guangjun and Zhang Renbo also reported that they first went from Moscow to Russian Rostov, and then to occupied Donetsk. Both were captured in the Donetsk region; one in the Tarasivka area, the other near Bilohorivka.
Both expressed a desire to return to China, despite the fact that they face punishment there for participating in military operations.
