Lavrov: Kremlin Ready For Deal With U.S. On Ukraine
SERGEY LAVROV

There is a condition, though.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said that the Kremlin is ready to reach an agreement with the US on Ukraine. However, he noted that some elements need to be ‘finalised’.

He said in an interview with CBC News.

‘We are ready to conclude a deal. There are still some specific points - elements of this deal that need to be finalised,’ he said.

In addition to the statement on the deal, Lavrov spoke out about US President Donald Trump and his efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

‘The president of the United States believes, and I think rightly so, that we are moving in the right direction,’ the Russian foreign minister said.

His statements came after Russia launched strikes in Kyiv on the night of Thursday, 24 April, where there are dead and dozens injured, as well as in other Ukrainian cities. The publication notes that the attack in the capital was the deadliest in months and came as Trump is pushing his proposal to end the war.

When asked by the presenter why civilians were killed after Ukraine declared readiness for a ceasefire back in March, Lavrov started saying typical Russian Federation propaganda slogans.

‘We only strike military targets or civilian facilities used by the military. Putin has said this many times,’ the Russian foreign minister replied.

Speaking again on the topic of negotiations with Ukraine, Lavrov said there were ‘several signs that we are moving in the right direction.’ One of them he called the fact that Trump is probably the only leader on Earth ‘who has realised the need to address the root causes of this situation.’
