Ukrainian military conducted several successful operations.
Russian Z-bloggers claim that the AFU have had serious successes near Pokrovskoye and in Belgorod region.
How is the situation developing on the war fronts? Will the Russians launch a new offensive? Is there a threat from the territory of Belarus? Charter97.org asked for a commentary from military expert, reserve major of the National Guard of Ukraine Oleksiy Hetman:
- We have made several counterattacks in the Pokrovsk direction, taking positions that were previously lost. We cannot say that this is a serious offensive, but we are talking about advancing about a kilometre deep into the enemy positions. These are our positions, we are holding them. The Russians are suffering significant losses in manpower and hardware.
As for the Belgorod operation, there is cautious information that we are creating a certain bridgehead there. It will be something similar to the Kursk operation. I don't think that the AFU have the task to move deep into the territory of the Russian Federation. We are talking about creating a zone that will move the Russian troops away from our border by 10-15 kilometres.
- What can you say about the information appearing in the media that the Russians are allegedly preparing a major offensive?
- In fact, as early as last September it was known that a major Russian offensive was planned for 2025. The Russians themselves announced it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also spoke about it in an interview with Western media, naming even three probable directions: Sumy, Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia. Therefore, this is not news to us.
We see preparations for such offensive actions. On the other hand, they have not increased the number of manpower and hardware on the front line. The occupants can't advance anywhere now.
- Is there a threat from the territory of Belarus?
- There is always a threat from the territory of Belarus. However, I think that Lukashenka will not dare to attack. He has received an official warning that as soon as any hostilities start from Belarus, they will be considered aggression according to international law. In this case, we have the right to attack any military and military-industrial facilities in the territory of the aggressor country.
Our missiles can fly to any point in Belarus. Lukashenka understands perfectly well that his air defence means can hardly cope with Ukrainian ‘Palianitsy’, ‘Trembitas’, ‘Long Neptunes’, not to mention our drones, which are quite good at attacking the Russian Federation.
