The U.S. President commented on stock market losses caused by his imposed tariffs.
U.S. President Donald Trump said he did not intend to crash the stock markets by introducing tariffs. CNN published a video of his briefing aboard Air Force One.
"I don’t want anything to fall, but sometimes you have to take medicine to fix something," Trump told reporters.
The American president claimed that over the weekend, he discussed tariffs with European and Asian leaders, which are set to take effect next week. According to Trump, "they are dying to make a deal," but the U.S. will only proceed on its own terms.
"There won’t be any talks until they pay us huge sums on an annual basis," he said, adding that he also wants payments for previous years.
On April 6, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that more than 50 countries were already negotiating with the U.S. about lifting the new tariffs.
